San Juan, La Union | Elyu & I

Weekend trip on a budget? YES!
La Union is one of the most convenient hip surf & food destination in North Luzon. We had our last summer hurrah for 2 nights. Check below for our day-to-day itinerary:
How to go there:
We booked online via, each ticket costs P543.00 and comes with free bottled water and other freebies. The bus which we selected is the La-Z boy style Partas bus. The terminal is located at Aurora Blvd., Cubao – the travel time was approximately 5 hours (including stop overs).
Day 1:
We checked-in at Flotsam & Jetsam Hostel – a cool hipster, artist beach-front hostel. Every corner is picturesque. The kubo type dorm costs P780 per head. Tip: book in advance especially during weekends or holidays. We got bumped off for our second night.
We were greeted by GusGus!
Free surfer’s breakfast! Unlimited cereals, toast, and drinks (milk, juice, and/or coffee)
Sleep deprived, we proceeded with our first itinerary, trek to Tangadan Falls.
Cost per head (if booked in Flotsam, is 950php). The trek is about an hour. I really regretted that I didn’t wore my rubber shoes.
20-feet cliff dive
Bamboo raft
The Tangadan Falls trek was so tiring we ended up sleeping until 7pm
We woke up hungry. Really hungry. The food in Flotsam’s bar is quite pricey but the serving size & taste is worth it.
Everything looks better during nighttime
Day 2:
Enjoying the beach front before leaving Flotsam
Lunch at Surf Shack. It’s just 1 jeepney ride from Flotsam and a walking distance from Circle Hostel.
Surf Shack is a home to various food stalls which caters different cuisines/specialties.
Check-in at Circle Hostel.
Probably the worst accommodation I tried so far – service, cleanliness, and ventilation. But, if you’re just here to sleep, P450 per night isn’t that bad.
Our favorite spot in Circle Hostel.
Surfing at San Juan Surf School beach front in the afternoon. A surf board rental per hour is P200. Additional fees if you wish to have a surfing instructor.
El Union Coffee
Iced Coffee and Cookie. Yaaaas!
We checked out early because we haven’t reserved bus tickets to Manila. #chancepassengers
Luckily, within 20 minutes, we got a La-Z boy bus – price is quite cheaper compared to our bus going to La Union
